I worked directly with Julie Finch to restructure my photography business from the bottom up. This was the very first time I was able to understand exactly what I was deciding and feel confident that I was creating policies and agreements that protect my business at the same time that they benefit my clients. My experience with working with Finch Law was, for the simplicity of the word, easy. I never felt intimidated, instead, I felt heard and that the advice I received was direct and pertinent to my goals and success as a business owner. I would absolutely recommend Julie as a business attorney for small business owners like me.

Julie Finch has served as an external general counsel for my marketing firm for many years. Her advice is expert particularly in areas of contracts and intellectual property. She communicates in a way that is clear and easy to understand. I also appreciate that she has a preventive/educational aspect to the way she deals with clients. In terms of billing I have never questioned the value of her work - her invoices always make sense and are reasonable. Lastly, she is responsive and always follows through.

I have retained Julie Finch to handle my small business intellectual property on more than one occasion. Her advice has always been clear, easy to implement, and practical. I find her solutions take into account my business as a whole, both the legal issues and the general constraints a small business faces.

I've been working with Julie for 3-4 years through a few business name changes, branding concerns, legal insight when I wrote my book, etc. She's been a valuable asset, very responsive, and extremely knowledgeable! I don't worry about issues legally as I have her on my A-Team! I highly recommend Julie for any legal trademark or brand work.

I cannot say enough about the incredible work that Julie Finch does. Her expertise has enabled me to launch and scale my business, ensuring I had all of my legal "ducks in a row", every step of the way! Julie is on speed dial and is an integral part of my "personal board of directors", and she is someone I consistently mention to other business owners who are seeking legal expertise. To be blunt: She's the best in the business and I highly recommend her!

I would highly recommend Julie Finch. She is articulate and organized, with the business and legal experience to help those of us who want to protect our intellectual assets. I have found her not just professional, but incredibly caring and honest.

Julie was wonderful to work with. I worked with her to get a trademark for my business. She communicated clearly through the whole process, helped me understand the timeline, held my hand through navigating the process, and even warned me about all the spam mail (she was right; it looked legit!) that I'd receive after my trademark was filed. To top it off, she celebrated with me when I was finally awarded my official trademark! I'm looking forward to working with her again!

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
