What a fantastic experience I've had with Maggie and her amazing staff! After almost a decade of denials and frustration with another law firm I almost gave up. A friend said to give Shott Law a call and I did just that. One of the best calls I've ever made. From the first call I knew I had a chance after all. The staff handled all the medical records, filings, etc. and actually called me when they had questions. They always answered my questions, which were plenty, and never seemed put out. Maggie was in communication with me throughout the whole journey. I learned that my file was over 2400 pages, and she found the path to victory! I highly recommend Maggie and her team more than I can say! The process can be a long one and I'm very blessed to have Maggie and her team on my side.

I hesitate to write this review. Although I do believe Maggie is a good attorney, most if not all my contact was with her staff. Being a paralegal myself, I was stunned at how rude I was treated and spoke to. Even bringing me to tears. The office is near impossible to get to as a disabled person. I was shocked when I got there and had to walk down narrow concrete steps with overgrown brush. A huge tripping hazard. An option should be given to have staff come up. Also, I had to constantly update staff with addresses of doctors that I had seen from the very beginning. After receiving disability, I was told by staff I would continue to be eligible for Apple health and am immediately qualified for Medicare. Neither is true. I got a letter from Apple terminating me and am not eligible for Medicare for 2 years. Further, I never received a response from Maggie after the award. I?m sure intentions are good and perhaps the stress of the job takes it?s toll. However, I couldn?t recommend this attorney.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
