We had such a positive experience working with Susan Eleff. She was very responsive and took the time to fully understand our estate planning needs, which were unique and complicated. She updated all of our documents and made excellent suggestions regarding new property trusts. It was clear to me that Susan really cared about ensuring our estate papers were thorough and that they addressed all of our needs. She is one of the best estate planning attorneys and one that I fully trust and highly recommend.

Susan and her team at The Eleff Law Group were professional, extremely helpful and easy to work with in handling my mother's estate. I was the Personal Representative (executor) for my mom's estate. Despite all of the obstacles created by the COVID pandemic, Susan's team was able to help me to settle my mother's estate in Montgomery County without any issues. With both children and step-children as heirs, Susan's advice was critical in our ability to avoid any animosity between the various groups. She helped me to make sure everything was clearly spelled out in my communications with all of the heirs. One of the aspects of working with the Eleff Law Group I appreciated most was that emails and phone messages were returned promptly and our questions answered. I would definitely recommend the Eleff Law Group to anyone having to serve in the role of Personal Representative/Executor of an estate. It can be a very tedious process, but with a group of professionals, like the Eleff Law Group on your side, it will go by smoothly and without drama. John Colonna

In the last twelve months, I had to revise my Last Will & Testament twice; both times I used the services of The Eleff Law Group. I received an outstanding service with prompt, clear, and enlightening guidance regarding my options. Ms Eleff took the time to explain to me the County Laws regarding Wills and Probate, and translated them to me from legalese to a language that a layperson like myself can understand. All that at a reasonable fee. Thank you Ms Eleff.

We recently engaged Susan Eleff for estate planning, and for a civil litigation matter. In both cases Susan was very knowledgeable, diligent and hard working, returned emails very quickly, and overall did an excellent job for us. We would not hesitate to work with her again, and we would recommend her to anyone who is looking for a expert attorney who is very accessible and will work hard for you.

We engaged Susan Eleff to update our estate papers after interviewing several attorneys. We were impressed with Susan?s expertise. She quickly understood our unique situation and offered creative ways to structure our trusts. Overall, she did an outstanding job! We?ve worked with many attorneys in the Washington DC area. Susan stands out not only for her knowledge of the law and intelligence, but also for her integrity, quality and deep commitment to clients. She completed our estate papers within the timeframe and fee she quoted even though our papers ended up being more complex than anticipated. She and her staff presented all of our final documents in a professional leather binder along with a thumb drive making access and reference easy. We fully trust and recommend Susan ? she exceeded our expectations.

Susan Eleff - I recently worked with Susan to redo my previous estate planning documents to bring them up to date. Susan cared about me and my family, providing timely, practical solutions for our unique planning needs. Even in a fairly straightforward last will, there is legal language that can be confusing - Susan patiently broke it down to layman's language. She took the time to know the situation well enough to make sure I understood the alternatives and why she was making a particular recommendation. She explained the best ways to write a power of attorney and advanced medical directives so that should they need to be used, there would be no question about my intent. Susan earns a 5 star rating - she is conscientious, creative and thorough.

I found myself in need of an estate lawyer after my sister, trustee of my mother?s trust, decided to shut down all communications with the family and neglect her fiduciary responsibilities. Susan was very responsive. I was able to speak directly to her, give an overview of the situation, and make an appointment for later the same evening to have an in-depth meeting. She quickly helped me understand our legal options, gave great advice and we devised an immediate plan of action. Susan was able to immediately break barriers with my sister & her hostile lawyer. My experience with Susan was excellent.

Susan was both personable and professional throughout our meetings. The initial phone called is the reason we went with her firm, offering frank advice without making us feel rushed to come on board as a client. I needed to add a name to a Deed of Trust and Susan offered guidance in describing the language and offered continual flexibility to accommodate out of state travelers. I look forward to using Susan again for estate planning.

I live in Ohio and when I needed an estate lawyer due to my brother in Maryland passing away, my wife did an internet search and found Susan Eleff law group. Susan met with us and helped us go thru the process of handling the estate and filing all the required documents for the court. Working with Susan and one of her legal assistants named Kimberly Graham we were able to be assigned as the personal representative for the estate within one day. Then the actual process of handling the estate with me being an out of state person was long and the estate was complicated so it took over 2 years to complete all processing and get the estate closed by the court. During the entire time I was always able to get expert legal advice and direction from Kimberly and Susan which helped me tremendously in the challenging time of dealing with my brothers sudden death. Susan's office handled all correspondence with the court and was caring and professional in all of my dealings with them. I highly recommend the Eleff Law group for any legal assistance you may need. Their expertise as well as their compassion and empathy were demonstrated on several occassions during the processing of the estate. You can trust Susan and her staff to guide you in the most professional manner. I am writing this review because when I choose the Eleff Law group it was because of the internet reviews on her that helped me decide to seek her advice/counsel and I want to let others know that the reviews are accurate and I am a very satisfied customer. Susan Eleff recently helped me and my husband to create individual Trusts, Wills, Living Wills and Power of Attorney documents. My husband and I both have little experience with these things, so we asked a lot of questions. Susan patiently answered them all, and offered suggestions on the best way to approach some issues that were important to us. She helped guide us through the maze of options available when doing estate planning, and made sure that we had everything we needed in place to assure that our wishes would be carried out. Thinking about death is never fun, so to have such expertise as Susan's to rely on made a world of difference. She has been the estate attorney for both my husband's family and my own, and we have come to trust her advice as she assisted our family through the settlement of the estates of our parents. I recommend Susan highly - she is professional, knowledgeable, and personable, and her staff is great to work with as well.

My husband and I are in our 70s. We engaged Susan Eleff to give us advice on implementing a comprehensive estate plan that involved establishing several trusts, as well as updating our wills and other medical and power-of-attorney documents. She was very knowledgeable, clear, and patience in outlining our options and the tax implications?as well as which ones would provide ease of administration and execution upon the death of one or both of us. Susan was always available to answers our questions and attentive to our need for changes. She and her staff were efficient in preparing the documents and provided the service at a reasonable fee. We were able to accomplish everything remotely, except for signing the documents, which was done adhering to COVID-19 guidelines in an pleasant outdoor space.

We'd been putting off updating our wills and then the pandemic hit. Choosing a patient, compassionate, knowledgeable lawyer seemed a daunting task, but I was thankful I called Susan Eleff. From our first phone call, I knew I had reached the right attorney. Susan was friendly and professional. She listened to my needs, answered my questions in understandable terms, and was prompt in responding to my inquiries, even though we were in different states, meeting virtually, by phone and email. Now I can rest easy knowing our wills, powers of attorney, and advanced living directives are complete and in order-come what may in these unprecedented times.

I am not a resident of Maryland, but having just been advised that a close relative who was a resident had died, I needed legal advice from an attorney in the area. It was a Sunday when I reached out to the Eleff Law Group with some preliminary questions and query about assistance. I was hoping for a response early in the work week, but to my surprise, I reviewed a call from Susan that very same Sunday. In addition to our initial discussion, we had exchanged some preliminary paperwork by the time I made my way to Maryland later in the week. We had additional discussions including the effect of a brewing family turmoil as related to the will. She proffered very good advice as to my options for navigating the turmoil. Ultimately, I decided to remove myself from the fight. Had I continued, I would have been grateful to have Ms Eleff representing me. In my brief experience with her, she displayed a wealth of knowledge combined with empathy which made me very comfortable. I highly recommend her firm for probate issues.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
