Attorney Anna R. Yum is a former prosecutor who opened her private law practice in 2008. Ms. Yum’s practice is predominantly focused on criminal defense in both state and federal courts. She has also been very successful in representing plaintiffs in sexual assault and sexual harassment matters in both state and federal courts. Ms. Yum graduated from Northwestern University, ranked 9th in the country, with a B.S. in Communications and International Studies before earning a J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law. While at law school, Ms. Yum obtained a prestigious judicial externship with Senior Federal Court Judge Robert M. Takasugi in the Central District of California.
Since 2008, Ms. Yum has been recognized as one of the top criminal defense attorneys in San Diego. Her awards and honors include being recognized as one of the National Trial Lawyers: Top 100, San Diego Metro Magazine’s Best Lawyers in San Diego, and Avvo Client’s Choice Award.
She has successfully represented clients on charges ranging from serious and/or violent offenses such as sexual assault, child abuse, murder, attempted murder, “criminal street gang” cases, robbery, felony offenses with firearm enhancements, domestic violence with great bodily injury enhancements to lower-level offenses including driving under the influence, theft-related offenses, narcotics cases, probation violations, and much more. Ms. Yum is a fierce advocate in the courtroom and she has successfully tried a multitude of jury and bench trials to verdict. Ms. Yum is also dedicated to cases representing plaintiffs in sexual harassment litigation. She has successfully obtained millions of dollars in settlements for clients by representing individuals and families who have been harmed by others’ sexual harassment and sexual assault.
Many of Ms. Yum’s cases have been recognized or highlighted by the media on Fox News and CNN as high profile cases. Ms. Yum is also regularly called upon by the media to serve as a legal analyst or commentator for national and local networks such as Fox News, HLN, and many more.
Ms. Yum is also very involved in the legal community. She is a member of the San Diego Criminal Defense Lawyer’s Club, a highly selective organization comprised of the top criminal defense attorneys in San Diego and extended to members by invitation only, San Diego County Bar Association, Criminal Defense Bar Association of San Diego, and the Korean American Bar Association of San Diego.
Ms. Yum is a member of the State Bar of California and the State Bar of Illinois. She is also licensed to practice in federal court in both the Southern and Central Districts of California.
