Practicing family law provides me with the opportunity to represent real people with real problems. I do not represent banks or insurance companies. I represent people who are going through divorces, people who are trying to collect child support and people who are trying to see their children.

Practicing family law provides me with the opportunity to represent real people with real problems. I do not represent banks or insurance companies. I represent people who are going through divorces, people who are trying to collect child support and people who are trying to see their children.

I take pride in practicing family law. Family law touches almost every family in some way: divorce, adoption, child support, visitation, and paternity actions to name a few. The overwhelming percentage of cases heard every day in the Bexar County courthouse are family law cases. Family law is where the action is.

Each case (and client) is different. As your lawyer, my job is to analyze your situation, identify the legal issues, make sure that you are aware of your options (including mediation) and the possible consequences, and then fiercely represent you once you have determined which path to take. I am also familiar with the special issues that our service members and their spouses face in family law cases.

I am young and energetic and The Law Office of Mark C. Thompson is quickly gaining recognition in the San Antonio legal community. My mother is an established family law attorney and I have learned a great deal from working with her over the past several years. I do not guarantee results, I only guarantee that I will represent you to the best of my abilities.

Mr. Thompson was not only thoroughly professional in handling my divorce case, but I felt he was compassionate and caring while I was dealing with my personal trauma. He handled every aspect of my case with the utmost thoroughness; he was always available to answer my questions and clearly knows what he is doing. Additionally, his fees are reasonable and you will not be paying for a fancy office or his next BMW payment. I highly recommend Mark Thompson.

I used this attorney twice now. Each time the results were better than I expected at a reasonable cost.

I highly recommend Mark Thompson for anyone going through a divorce. He is a respectful and diligent lawyer working hard to take care of your individual needs. After talking to a few other lawyers, I decided Mr. Thompson was the best one to represent me. Again, I highly recommend him.

Mark Thompson is very professional and thorough. Hired him based on a recommendation from a former client of his, and was not disappointed. Had it not been for him, I would not have been able to get split custody of my daughter.

Mark was recommended to me by a friend. My friend was extremely pleased with Marks work despite the massive geographic separation they dealt with during the divorce process. So I obviously saw Mark as the ideal lawyer to handle my divorce. Mark nailed it from day one. In email, in person and over the phone Mark was a professional and worked to ensure I understood my rights. He was sooo fast, meticulous and I was amazed by his work ethic and response time. I admit this is my 3rd divorce and by far my best experience with a divorce lawyer.

Mark completed a QDRO for me, which isn't a pleasant process to begin with. However, he and his team made it an item on my list I virtually handed over and they took it off my plate. I didn't worry about where the process was, as the office sent clear, concise updates about where the process stood, anything that was needed, and any explanations that could proactively be given. I'll definitely reach out for my next divorce needs. Ha...just kidding. Let's not do this again.

Mr. Thompson has left us completely baffled by his lack of communication and his lack of perseverance. It seems if anything in your case doesn't line up perfectly, he retreats, no fight in him. Please find you a more competent, confident lawyer.

I hired Mr Thompson back in May 2023. My divorce should have been quick since we didn't have kids, property, or joint accounts to sort out, but this divorce has been anything but simply. I've been paying both Mr Thompson and my husband well over $2000 a month and I was just informed by Mr Thompson that this divorce is dragging into the new year; leaving me high and dry. My husband has spent the majority of his life in prison, so while I was serving my country he was serving time. I retired from the military 10 years before I met him. We were married only 8 years of my 34 years of Federal service, yet i can't seem to get this divorce finalized because he keep lying to the court about his income and medical condition and he has NOT provided any supporting documentation. I have paid thousands of dollars and am still married. Mr. Thompson is not a fighter or supporter. I feel betrayed to say the least.

Mark was very attentive and quick to answer all of the questions and concerns I had. He was extremely professional, was easy to communicate with and took the time to understand me. Overall, I am very pleased with his representation and would definitely recommend him going forward.

At first Mr. Thompson seemed very concerned and legitimate. I picked him as my attorney because after the initial consultation i felt comfortable with his calm demeanor and thought he was competent. A couple of Days before my first court hearing, he called me and said that if what my wife's attorney was saying is true he suggests i just give in and give them what they want. I explained that i need him, as my attorney, to fight for me and reveal the truth; he said he will have to quit because my case was spiralling out of control. So, he left me high and dry to say the least. I was at work, seeing patients and had a difficult time and created more stress. Mr. Thompson is NOT someone who will back you. He is not a fighter. Please do not waste your time with this incompetent person.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
