I found Terzich and Ort LLP by purpose or accident and have been humbled by their compassion, patience, personable, professional, and knowledgeable guidance. What I valued the most from this group of super lawyers is: 1. I was told both what I wanted and what I needed to know, 2. Even in my moments where I had my heels dug in and was sure of my direction ? Jodi eloquently would use her experience and heart to re-center me on my journey. Divorce is very hard and choosing your attorney to guide you on this path can be another emotionally overwhelming experience. With Terzich and Ort, my attorney became the sunshine and fair winds that kept me on my path to the change I needed. Thank you!

Jodi kept my head from exploding during the whole ordeal. Reassuring and competent, Jodi kept the process moving forward despite opposing counsel?s antics and inappropriate rhetoric. Helped me to get a fair settlement. Office/Support staff very pleasant to interact with and extremely efficient. ??

I stopped fretting the INSTANT I hired Shannon. The day after I hired her something came up that I could have worried about but I reminded myself that Shannon is on my side so I was able to completely let it go! She was personable, reassuring, validating and kind to me; but SCARY to the other side! She was exactly what I needed at the worst moment of my life. I'm very thankful for her!

Jodi Terzich is an excellent, calm, knowledgeable & focused attorney. I had a very unpleasant divorce that involved an ex-wife who threw all sorts of false allegations at me, and Jodi had been extremely helpful, very professional and ethical. Jodi had guided me through very complicating court processes, kept me updated so I could make informed decision and had worked with me to achieve my essential goal of advocating in the best interest of our children despite all the unnecessary noise and false allegations from my ex-wife. I am very grateful to Jodi and her colleagues'.

I used Shannon for my divorce in 2018/2019. My ex-husband is extremely contentious and cheap. I did not feel that Shannon advocated for me in the divorce agreement nor in writing the decree. There were many things I wanted listed in the decree that I wanted my ex to help pay for with regard to our three kids that Shannon would not add. I later learned that anything and everything can be added to a decree. Additionally, Shannon did not write the decree in a way that I could enlist the help of Child Support Services to garnish my ex's wages when he chose not to pay me. Lastly, I repeatedly received duplicate charges on my bills from Terzich & Ort. I parted ways with Shannon in May of 2019 and hired another lawyer as my ex filed to take me to court. I wish I had used the other lawyer from the start.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
