Diana L. Porter is a prominent local attorney providing high quality family law services solely in Collin County, Texas. She is Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. The Texas Board of Legal Specialization was created through the Texas Supreme Court to assist consumers in identifying attorneys specially qualified in specific areas of the law. To secure board certification, an attorney must meet demanding requirements which include years and nature of experience in the practice area and recommendations of judges and attorneys. Continuing education in the practice area insures a continuing expertise.

Ms. Porter has practiced law in Collin County, Texas for more than 14 years. Her practice has been limited to family law for the last 10 years and she practices only in Collin County. Ms. Porter is committed to providing the highest quality legal services. Limiting her practice to family law insures her ability to maintain her expertise in this highly complex area. Limiting her practice to Collin County maintains her familiarity with the courts, local practices, courthouse personnel and other attorneys practicing in the area. Her extensive experience before the Collin County courts enhances her ability to provide informed strategies to her clients.

Family law cases are as unique as the individuals involved and the needs of each client vary greatly. Likewise, fees associated with each family law case vary according to the needs of the client and the case. Ms. Porter’s philosophy is to perform the services necessary to the case and avoid services which unnecessarily increase the client’s fees. When options are available to the client which will increase or decrease the costs, Ms. Porter will explain those options, including the advantages, disadvantages and risks. The client will receive regular billing statements which specifically state the services performed and the costs associated with the service.

The overwhelming majority of family law cases are settled before trial and that translates into lower fees. Ms. Porter strongly encourages settlement to both reduce fees and help create a more amicable post-litigation relationship between the parties whenever possible. She has developed very successful settlement tools which protect and inform her clients. She has extensive experience representing clients in mediation and has been trained in the collaborative law process. When settlement is not successful, Ms. Porter zealously represents her client’s interests in trial. Her trial success is a result of her experience and ability to objectively evaluate the strengths and weaknesses in a family law case. She strives to give her clients the benefit of that experience and judgment.

Ms. Porter's practice includes Divorce, Child Custody, Child Support, Visitation, Post Divorce Modification, Paternity, Adoption, Alimony and Spousal Support and Pre- and Post-Nuptial Marital Agreements and Cohabitation Agreements.

Terrible Amicus Attorney. As a kid did not represent my best interests at all. I had to self advocate and go around her.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
