Gordon has practiced family law for over 35 years, reached negotiated or mediated settlements in the majority of his cases and tried a large number of cases over those years. His focus on thorough preparation assists him in negotiating or mediating appropriate settlements in cases ranging from fairly substantial to very substantial in asset levels and complexity, including parenting issues and relocation. He has been a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers for over 20 years and is repeatedly honored by organizations like Best Lawyers in America and Washington Super Lawyers as a top family law attorney in the state.
"I chose family law because I am more interested in helping individuals than corporations," says Gordon. "And I found I could help people in family law. Clients with complex assets or difficult parenting matters face what can be a challenging ordeal and need experienced counsel and able paralegals at their side."
With a "right to the point" demeanor, Gordon explains his pragmatic approach to family law:
"I analyze the facts of the case and consider them in terms of the law and positive and negative aspects to make a strategic plan for resolving the case," he says. "Clients need a lawyer who is smart and thoughtful, not aggressive."
Gordon credits much of his success to his mentor. He learned family law from Richard Riddell of Riddell Williams, where he practiced and worked with paralegals when that was not commonplace. Today, Gordon will again be working with a team of attorneys, paralegals, and other professionals to provide a full range of legal support and attentive client service.
When not working, Gordon enjoys spending time with his daughters, granddaughter, and friends. He also enjoys sailing, cooking, travel, rebuilding boats, and building furniture.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
