INTRODUCTION

The firm that is today DeConcini McDonald Yetwin & Lacy, P.C., was founded in 1968 under the name DeConcini McDonald by Evo DeConcini, Dennis DeConcini and John R. McDonald.

Anyone familiar with Arizona and U.S. history will likely recognize those names as belonging to people who helped shape the state of Arizona and the United States Congress:

- Evo DeConcini served as a Justice of the Arizona Supreme Court, Arizona Attorney General, Pima County Superior Court Judge, and a member of the Arizona Board of Regents.

- Dennis DeConcini served as Pima County Attorney and represented Arizona in the United States Senate from 1977 until his retirement in 1995.

- John McDonald served as President of the Arizona School Boards Association.

Reflecting the historical impact of the DeConcinis in particular, several of Arizona’s landmark buildings bear the family name, including the Evo A. DeConcini U.S. Courthouse and Federal Building and the DeConcini Port of Entry at the United States/Mexico border crossing.

The attorneys and staff of DeConcini McDonald Yetwin & Lacy take pride in our reputation of commitment to the communities in which we live and work. This commitment is reflected in our pro bono, civic, and philanthropic activities throughout Arizona.

(SALA) for providing services and legal expertise to those in our community who can least afford it. Requests for pro bono assistance are coordinated for the firm through the following organizations: Southern Arizona Legal Aid https://www.sazlegalaid.org/services and Step Up To Justice http://www.stepuptojustice.org/.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
