5.0 out of 5 stars

After being turned down for VA Service Connection even though my Army records show hospitalization, I turned to McKown and Myers. Thanks to the expertise of Tom Myers and the assistance of Angela, I am now service-connected. Angela was always available to answer any questions and keep me posted on my claim status. I urge any veteran to seek their assistance when needed.

Excellent. But there is/was no follow up advice or counciling. Advice ask for post hearing advice if you win, pay the exrea fee. I May have been given such council prior to, but did not connect due to concentrating on the current situation. Now payment have been stopped and the SS office keep stating they are not getting correspondence including those send using their envelopes and when we go to tthe office, the SS office staff looks at you and is determined you are there to commit fraud, Bottom line can not gett payment started after doing all that they required cause then they start asking for new or additioal information.and it never ends after 9 months.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
