At the law firm of Carol A. N. Breit, Attorney at Law, in Richmond Virginia, I give clients the individualized time and concern they deserve. Because I recognize that each case is unique, I evaluate all facts individually to find the most successful outcome for each client. As a skilled negotiator, I recognize that some cases are best settled through alternatives to litigation. Nonetheless, I have years of litigation experience, and will aggressively represent clients in court, if necessary. Contact me to schedule a consultation.

In my divorce and family law practice, I advise women and men on all types of divorce and family law matters, including custody, visitation, equitable distribution, child support and spousal support.

As a criminal defense attorney, I handle all felony and misdemeanor charges, including DUIs, drug offenses, traffic violations and property crimes.

In my personal injury practice, I represent people who have been injured as the result of someone else’s negligence. I handle most types of personal injury claims, including auto accident and slip and fall cases. I help clients recover full and fair compensation for physical injury, medical expenses, lost wage, and pain and suffering. I also counsel clients in accidental and wrongful death actions.

My employment law practice include representation in claims involving wrongful discharge or termination, discrimination (based on gender, race, age, religion and disability), and sexual harassment.

I started my career as a prosecutor, which gave me a firm foundation in litigation. In the prosecutor’s office, I learned first-hand how to meticulously prepare a case and how to effectively argue before a judge and jury. I understand how the government investigates and prosecutes criminal cases and use this knowledge to ensure that my clients’ rights are protected.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
