For over 70 years residents and businesses have relied on our firm.

Since Charles Suisman, Max Shapiro and Louis Wool established themselves as skilled eastern Connecticut attorneys in the 1930’s and collaborated in the 1950’s to form our firm, we have been protecting the interests of average citizens. As our firm has grown, our attorneys have continued to offer innovative, effective solutions for legal problems. Residents and businesses in Connecticut have responded – Suisman Shapiro Attorneys-at-Law is now the largest law firm headquartered in eastern Connecticut.

Even when Mr. Suisman was joined by partners Max Shapiro and Louis Wool in the 1950’s, a general practice attorney could still handle most matters capably. Since then the law has changed. In order to offer comprehensive and effective counsel for today’s more complex legal environment, each of our attorneys now focuses on specific practice areas.

Personal injury claims and civil litigation are handled by board-certified trial lawyers John Collins, Matthew Auger, Matthew Shafner and Roger Scully. If you are involved in a disputed motor vehicle/auto accident injury claim, a claim or lawsuit involving another type of accident, or a contract dispute and would like to speak with one of our trial attorneys, contact our New London office and make an appointment for a free consultation.

Family law Attorneys Michael Blanchard, Jeffrey Hill, Ryan Jaziri and Robert Tukey protect the interests of clients involved in the sensitive areas of divorce, custody and division of property, crafting solutions that are both financially and emotionally reasonable.

Attorneys James Berryman, Carolyn Kelly, Robert Keville and Matthew Shafner represent workers injured on the job, handling federal and state workers’ compensation, Social Security disability claims, asbestos litigation and appeals. If you have a concern about workers’ comp or SSDI, contact our office to arrange a free consultation.

Aggressive and effective criminal defense representation is provided by trial lawyers Michael Blanchard and Bryan Fiengo against charges ranging from DUI and fraud to homicide/murder.

Our Business Law attorneys Raymond Baribeault, Eric Callahan, and Ryan Jaziri represent individuals, companies and banks in all types of Business and Commercial Real Estate transactions including entity formation, purchases and sales, financing and corporate structure, governance, and succession issues. All aspects of Residential Real Estate transactions are handled by our residential real estate department.

Even for the small scale of my case, everything was done promptly by Attorney Sam Nassetta and I felt like he was putting me first before anything. I felt a connection as if it was my best friend helping me out.

Never having had a need for a lawyer in the past, I was directed to hire Sam Nassetta by a friend. Sam indicated he would work on expungement in my case and has had much experience in this area. During the months that followed, Sam was always accessible to me by phone calls or texting. Sam can be counted on as he is a man of his word. He is very articulate and persuasive in the court room. He has a presence in the court room and is respected, knowledgeable, and to the point. My family and I thank him for what he accomplished for me.

I just want to personally thank Attorney Sam Nassetta for all his hard word on my case with my previous employer. Sam is an over the top example of what an honest, kind considerate attorney is. I had an amazing experience with Ray. During this very stressful time that I felt so ashamed of what was going on, he made my experience extremely painless and he was very helpful and understanding. I recommend him and the law firm. The staff was very welcoming and helpful as well. They always kept in touch, kept me well informed, and made sure I understood everything. I am very grateful.

I worked with one of the attorneys at Suisman Shapiro Attorneys-at-Law, Roger Scully, for my personal injury settlement. His professionalism, responsiveness, expertise, and transparency made what could have been frustrating experience a very smooth and easy process. He quickly gained my trust by taking the time to explain the situation, all my options, and the outcomes of my decision to make any of those options. I feel confident in my decision to settle because of the guidance he provided and the knowledge he offered to support that guidance. That confidence helped me put the entire reason for the settlement behind me. I highly recommend Roger if you are in need of legal guidance/services.

Over 6 months of a certain attorney to get back to you on a serious family issue. Give them every document on the case and he didn?t even touch it, but someone that?s on the same case goes to him with cash in his hand and he takes on the case. We were wrongly accused with documentation proving it and he agreed and now is representing the other side. Conflict of interest much. Just goes to show how it?s all about money and never about families. All the good things everyone said about attorney blanchard Is absolutely not true. Now innocent children are going through hell and nothing I can do cause to much time has gone by. Not to mention during our consultation I guess my serious case was to boring for him because he was falling asleep. My grand babies deserve to be home with their family not in state custody. Absolutely the most worst experience I?ve ever dealt with but I was holding on cause of all the good talk about him.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
