I joined Rawls, Scheer, Clary & Mingo, PLLC to follow my passion to practice exclusively in immigration law. I am experienced in handling family-based immigrant petitions, deportation defense, applications for deferred action and visa applications, including applications for victims of abuse or crime. I work hard to help our clients obtain the appropriate immigration relief to be able to come to or to remain in the United States. With care and respect for their stories and struggles through this process, I strive to keep our clients from being separated from their families. I identify with immigrants because, while being a United States citizen, I am from Puerto Rico and Spanish is my first language. I know firsthand how hard it is to settle in a new country without family and learn English.
After college at the University of Puerto Rico, I moved to Washington, DC to serve immigrant communities through my work as an educator, a community organizer and a legal advocate. These experiences and my own immigrant and language challenges caused me to seek new opportunities to help others. I attended law school in New York and worked as a Juvenile Defense Attorney in the Legal Aid Society’s Juvenile Rights Division. I combined the application of immigration and criminal law to help the youth in underserved communities. I then moved to Charlotte and worked in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System teaching Spanish and advocating for Spanish-speaking families while I prepared to take the North Carolina Bar exam. I enjoy helping immigrants navigate the challenges of life in the United States and assisting in the process of migration.
