I was charged with a serious, serious offense a couple of years ago. I found Jill through the NORML website and it was the blessing I needed. She quickly saw and understood that I was not a bad guy and helped me understand that. That was the most critical step in my legal process. Then she became my biggest advocate. She believed in me and fought for me with that in mind. It showed by her empathy, her caring, her knowledge, her brilliance, her connections/networking, her POSITIVE attitude, her hopefulness, her fairness, her direct advice, and most of all, her professionalism.
Initially, we were facing an extremely tough sentence that would have taken me away from my family, my job, and my newborn. In a matter of a year and half, she worked and worked, slowly pecking away at my sentence during the negotiation process. Her personal friendships with all involved in the legal process/system including DAs, Asst DAs, and judges proved beneficial as she always had an open ear in negotiating my case.
On a personal level, her realistic optimism was so vital. As you go through this process, one can get very down on the themselves. She always made sure I did not do that on every encounter with her and dealt with me as a human being, not just a case. She always reminds you that everyone makes mistakes, and just to move forward and work through it.
After the case adjudicated, she is still available as she has helped me numerous times in dealing with the legal process as I work through my sentence. Quickly responding to inquiries and helping with the same zeal as she did before the sentencing.
I highly, highly recommend Jill Polster as only defense attorney to hire in dealing with legal issues. She is part of the family.
