Chris Jones joined Hellmuth & Johnson in November 2004. Chris is a partner of the firm and member of the Real Estate, Construction and Litigation Practice Groups, where he primarily represents contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, business owners and property owners in a variety of transactional matters and disputes. Chris represents clients in mediations, arbitrations and district court actions regarding mechanic's liens, construction defect disputes and other business and commercial disputes. His practice is primarily concentrated in:
- Real estate law and litigation
- Construction litigation
- Commercial litigation
Chris has a well-established practice assisting homeowners whose homes suffer from water intrusion, water damage and construction deficiencies. Over the past several years, Chris has received significant monetary recoveries on behalf of clients with defective and damaged homes. Those recoveries have helped homeowners get their homes repaired and the ongoing issues resolved. While that process can be very challenging and intimidating, Chris helps guide his clients through the process as quickly, yet aggressively and effectively, as possible to maximize the possible recovery for water intrusion related problems under the circumstances.
Chris also has an active practice representing both buyers and sellers in real estate misrepresentation cases. Chris works with buyers/sellers prosecuting or defending against claims related to alleged misrepresentations made in connection with the sale of real property. On this issue, Chris has authored an article called "An Agent's Guide-Understanding Real Estate Disclosure Laws” which can be downloaded from the link on this page. Chris frequently teaches seminars on these disclosure issues to real estate agents who are frequently the first point of contact when a problem arises.
In addition, Chris also works with a variety of construction industry clients on contract issues, project disputes and general legal matters. Chris takes a problem-solving approach in these matters and tries to determine how to resolve disputes in the quickest and most efficient fashion on behalf of his construction clients. He also has a role in preventing potential future disputes by drafting and reviewing construction contracts, assisting in project documentation, and establishing preliminary dispute resolution procedures.
Chris was named to the 2008-2010 & 2012 Minnesota Rising StarsSM lists, only 2.5% of young attorneys in the state are selected each year. Licensed to practice law in the State and Federal courts of Minnesota as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, he is a member of the Hennepin County and Minnesota State Bar Associations. Chris also serves as a commissioner on the Planning Commission for the City of Savage and is also a past Board member and President of The Pointe Homeowners Association in Savage, MN. In December 2010, Chris was elected to serve a three year term on the Board of Directors for the National Association of the Remodeling Industry, Minnesota Chapter (NARI-MN).
He obtained his J.D. from the University of North Dakota, graduating with distinction. He also completed his undergraduate studies at the University of North Dakota with a B.S. degree in Criminal Justice Studies.
