In 1997, after 25 years as a successful criminal and family law trial attorney, Leon was appointed Orange County Judge, serving for 15 years, until his retirement from the bench in 2013. In 2012, prior to his retirement, he was one of six finalists whose name was submitted to Governor Rick Scott by the Judicial Nominating Commission for the Ninth Judicial Circuit for the position of Circuit Court Judge.
