0.5 out of 5 stars

If I could give zero stars for this lawyer I would do it. I am so disappointed in the level of service that I received or actually didn't receive. At first, Becky just seemed as if she was a little scattered and didn't always pay attention to the details. She would get the overall picture correct but the minutiae was incorrect or inaccurate. As time went on, she stopped contacting me at all. She drafted the divorce agreement with inaccuracies throughout she sent it on to my soon-to-be ex-wife's lawyer and I basically never heard from her again. I have left emails, I have left voicemails, I even sent postal mail to her PO box requesting a response. I have reached out to the court to find out what to do next because I can't continue on with my divorce if there's no one helping me to continue on with my divorce. There is now a new hearing scheduled for July 29th which is exactly 2 years after my spouse asked for the divorce and almost exactly one year after I hired Miss Caruso to represent me in this divorce so that I would not have to deal with my narcissistic spouse and be abused throughout the divorce process. I hired Becky as much for my own mental health as for my financial and post marriage health as well. I have never received an invoice. Even though in my client rights and responsibilities it said that I would receive one every 60 days. I have received excuse after excused after excuse for why she was out of contact for a month at a time. First she was called out of the office. Then her husband had some kind of non-contagious disorder. Then she had an allergic reaction to a medicine. All of these things on their own would be completely understandable and I tried to be understanding that perhaps in this pandemic age all of these things are happening to one person. But it is now May 31st and I have not heard anything from my lawyer regarding my divorce since March 2nd. Please do your research better than I did. And do not hire Ms Caruso to represent you for anything. I do not like leaving negative reviews for anyone or anything. But as big of a deal as this is and as much money as a retainer is... I really do not think that this woman should be representing anyone else in any court of law.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
