5.0 out of 5 stars

Laura Carlsen is a fantastic attorney that stood up for my children?s best interest. My case had so much conflict and my parenting plan and child support orders were a mess before I partnered with her. Now I have court orders that reflect the best interest of our children and conflict is much less. She is a powerhouse in the court room and is not afraid to go to trial. Laura was a game changer and my only regret was not finding her earlier. I would have saved so much money not having to redo things.

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear that you had a negative experience, but I do really appreciate you bringing this issue to my attention. It is important to us that all of our clients have a clear understanding of what fees they have incurred and why that work was necessary to accomplish the client's goals, and it is disappointing to hear you did not feel this way. This is an uncommon occurrence, and it is one that is taken very seriously. If you have any questions about your billing or the work that was done in your case, or if you have any other comments or suggestions to share, please contact us. I am always happy to make sure all of your billing questions are answered at no charge to you. - Laura Carlsen

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
