hired Donna to get a PFA for my family against a defendant who already pleaded guilty at the criminal court, and his probation is almost over. Donna said she could get it if it is only for my daughter, which I agreed. However at the court, it was clear that she was unprepared, and she lacks of knowledge. The defense attorney had to tell her the story of the case, of course it was the defense attorney's version. She did not ask me for clarification. She just bought whatever stories she was told. She yelled to me outside the door of the courtoom, and my young daughter was scared and crying because she could hear her words talking about her disabilities. She made my daughter, my son, my therapist came to the court to testify only to change her attitude out of the blue that she could not let them testify. My daughter is the key witness and the outcome would have been different if she let her testify. She never explained me why and she hung up the phone when I asked for clarificatio

This woman is a terrible lawyer! She is only after your money. You take a step forward and three steps back on completing your case. Look at other reviews they say the same thing.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
