We want to express how very pleased we are with the Estate Planning Services of Mr. Andrew Dunlap, Attorney at Law. Mr. Dunlap was extremely knowledgeable in this area. He is a good listener and communicator and the end results was more than we expected in a very timely manner. We would highly recommend him for Estate planning! Hire this attorney to handle my case regarding work discrimination. He would return a phone call after I called and left messages and emails every 10 attempts I reached out to him. I submitted documents for my case and recordings and he didn’t use any of the information. I have no clue how he is an actual licensed lawyer. Mr. Dunlap ripped me off the one thing he was on time about was collecting his retainer fee!!!! STAY AWAY. I found out later that he was unable to practice years prior on several occasions. NEVER USE ANDREW DUNLAP

Dunlap does not return phone calls or answer emails. He is apathetic rather than proactive. I had to call regularly to find out what was happening with our case, and usually nothing was happening. In the end, it took four years and much prodding on my part to finally have the court determine that Dunlap had sued the wrong party. In response to that, Dunlap suggested I get another lawyer to help me. He does not like to work and does not advocate for his clients.

I wish I had done my research prior to hiring this guy. Mr. Dunlap did absolutely nothing regarding my case. He did not return calls, missed meeting and missed the deadline to file suit in my case. He has been disciplined several times by the board going back to 1992. I paid Mr. Dunlap a $1500 retainer fee and he only sent out two letters during the 2 1/2 yrs he had my case. However, he wanted to charge me more to file suit. He stated that the retainer fee I paid was for his personal bills. He advertises that he is a trial lawyer which is a misrepresentation. He is not a trial lawyer and will tell you anything just to get a retainer fee. I would not recommend him. Please, Please do your research before you hire this guy.

Mr. Dunlap was very easy to work with. He listens to the issues and has the experience and knowhow to work toward a solution. He was on the phone with me in my appeal process and prepared me ahead of time for what to expect.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
