I attended law school at the University of San Francisco on a faculty merit scholarship graduating in May, 2001 and became a licensed attorney in November, 2001.

During law school, I focused on becoming a litigator through coursework, including an intensive advocacy program, as well as interning and working at two San Francisco law firms. I assisted the attorneys in a variety of types of legal matters, including in a murder trial and a death penalty appellate case.

Immediately after becoming a licensed attorney I began representing clients in court. From 2001 to 2004, I represented clients in criminal, personal injury, immigration, family law and bankruptcy cases.

In 2004, I moved to an Oakland law firm to focus solely on family law matters taking over the firm's entire family law case load. I continued focusing on family law cases when I moved to an Alameda law firm in 2009.

Prior to law school, I had a successful 15 year career in sales and marketing, including a position as Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for a company in New York. My sales/marketing experience included making hundreds of presentations and negotiating multi-million dollar contracts.

My experience making presentations and in business negotiations directly benefits my family law clients. I know how to present your case and how to effectively negotiate your settlement.

When my first attorney began having memory problems and losing track of important documents relevant to my divorce I knew it was time to find a new one. Mike had a good reputation and after meeting with him it was clear that he was smart and had a lot of experience as a family law attorney including divorce matters so I hired him. Immediately, Mike found an error my previous attorney made that would have had me paying for unnessary expenses. Mike was no nonsense and he focused entirely on the legal issues relevant to my divorce and getting me a fair settlement quickly while minimizing legal fees which was exactly what he did. My ex-wife hired an attorney who did a lot of divorce litigation and given the complex issues involved with my divorce there was a possibility it could have gone to court. Mike helped me track down assets that my ex-wife had not disclosed and effectively negotiated with her attorney such that we reached a settlement without having to go to mediation or court which would have been very expensive and time consuming. Additionally, Mike's hourly rate was very reasonable especially for the SF Bay Area and he was meticuous in his billing practices. He kept track of everything he did relevant to my case such that I never doubted the validity of any invoice I received from him, and his attention to detail helped ensure that all bases were covered in my case for the best possible outcome. Thanks to Mike's legal representation the divorce settlement was in my favor and the total cost of the divorce was reasonable given the circumstances. Mike is an excellent family law attorney and I highly recommend using his legal services if you are facing a divorce.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
