Law Firm Overview

Olson & Burns P.C. is a five attorney firm established in North Dakota in 1985 representing both lenders and business clients. The two principals have collectively practiced law over sixty years. Our firm has an emphasis on a general litigation practice representing land and mineral rights owners, probate, commercial institutions, insurance clients, and governmental agencies within a broad geographical area and within the Bakken Oil Reserve.

Firm Experience
The firm currently represents more than 30 banks and other financial institutions throughout North Dakota. Our representation includes contract and leasing preparation and reviews, leasing negotiations, reclamation of land and mineral rights, employment relationships, contract negotiations, business transactions, and advising clients on complex legal matters. Additionally, our representation includes investigation, negotiation, and litigation of claims at all levels.

We regularly appear in all state and federal courts in North Dakota. Members of our firm have handled more than 50 North Dakota Supreme Court appeals. Our attorneys have also appeared and argued cases in the United States Supreme Court, and the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. Members are active in North Dakota Supreme Court committees and Bar Association Committees.

Transactional matters include loan documentation and loan participation agreements for all loan sizes, particularly in the areas of commercial and agricultural credit. The firm regularly represents banks on various regulatory issues including matters before the North Dakota Banking Commission. The firm is editor of the Independent Community Bankers of North Dakota's legal newsletter the Community Bankers' Advisor.
