Phillip Estep dedicates his practice to protecting hard-working West Virginians in both state and federal courts and administrative forums, including the West Virginia Human Rights Commission.

Prior to becoming a plaintiff's attorney, Phillip practiced for several years at West Virginia's largest defense litigation firm, defending numerous private and public corporations and entities in various matters, including employment, personal injury, and commercial litigation. During this time, he also served as a city attorney to a West Virginia municipality and advised numerous municipalities on both employment and liability issues.

From 2014 to 2016, he served as the chairman of the Labor and Employment Section of the Defense Trial Counsel-West Virginia's civil litigation defense organization.

Because of his diverse experience, Phillip has gained valuable knowledge and experience from representing clients on "both sides." He regularly uses his defense experience to better serve West Virginia workers.

Outside of the office, Phillip is actively involved in the community. He serves as the chairman of the Roark Sullivan Lifeway Center, a nonprofit organization that provides services to homeless veterans. He also serves on the advisory board for the Charleston Boys and Girls Club. Recently, he was appointed by the West Virginia State Board of Education to serve on its Commission for Professional Teaching Standards. Phillip enjoys spending time with his two dogs and volunteering at the local humane society.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:
Comfort Level - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
Credentials - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
Cost - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
City - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?
