Lawyer Overview

Joyce Chen is an associate in the Litigation.Controversy Department with a focus in intellectual property litigation. She joined the firm in 2008.

Past Experience

While in law school, Ms. Chen interned at the United States Attorney Office in the District of Connecticut, where she drafted numerous memoranda and a second circuit appellate brief. As a judicial intern for the Honorable Stefan Underhill for the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut, Ms. Chen drafted rulings on motions for summary judgment and wrote memoranda on the Americans with Disability Act, evidentiary issues, trade secrets, and contract severability. She received the Cornelius Wickersham Award from the Federal Bar Council for her studies in constitutional law.

Prior to law school, from 2001 to 2005, Ms. Chen conducted academic research at the Yale School of Medicine, publishing her work in several academic journals including Biological Psychiatry and Psychosomatic Medicine. She was elected to the New Haven Board of Aldermen for three terms immediately after college, and served as Alderwoman for the Dwight area of New Haven from 2002 to 2008.

Ms. Chen is admitted to practice in the states of New York and Connecticut. She is also admitted to practice in the US District Courts of the Southern District of New York, Eastern District of New York, and District of Connecticut.

Professional Activities

Ms. Chen is a member of the New York Intellectual Property Law Association, the Federal Bar Council and the New York City Bar Association.
