Lawyer Overview

Matt Evans advises on a wide range of both transactional and behavioral EU and competition law matters. On transactions, Matt represents clients before the European Commission, Office of Fair Trading (OFT), and Competition Commission to obtain regulatory clearance for mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures. On the behavioral side, Matt advises on investigations into anticompetitive agreements and practices, including cartels and supply arrangements, abuses of dominant positions, State aid, and EU free movement issues. Matt works with clients in a range of sectors, including music, betting and gaming, fast moving consumer goods (FMCG), environmental, agriculture, and financial services.

Matt's recent experience includes acting for MPS Group to obtain EU merger clearance for its acquisition by Adecco and obtaining U.K. merger clearances for a market leading manufacturer.

Prior to joining Jones Day, Matt's transactional experience included securing EU and U.K. merger clearances for companies including Associated British Foods, Diageo, and Universal Music. Matt represented clients on cartel and other behavioral matters before the European Commission, OFT, and Competition Commission in the grocery, financial services, music, sports, energy, and transport sectors.

Matt has authored or coauthored numerous articles. He is a member of the American Bar Association.
