In a career as an attorney that has spanned over 26 years, Gordon N. Shayne has a broad background concentrating in litigation or trial work. As a trial attorney, he has diligently and aggressively pursued and defended the rights of his clients in criminal and civil proceedings in both state and federal courts. He is a licensed attorney in the State of Colorado, State of Florida, United States District Courts in Colorado and Florida, a member of the Trial Bar in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, and the 5th and 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a member in good standing of the Colorado and Florida Bar Association, American Bar Association, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Colorado Criminal Defense Bar and the El Paso County, Colorado Bar Association. He has spent 10 years of his career as a prosecutor, responsible for the handling of thousands of traffic, juvenile, misdemeanor and felony offenses. He was appointed Lead Felony Trial Attorney, Felony Division Chief, and has investigated numerous police and citizen shootings of prominence. During these significant years as a prosecutor, he has tried hundreds of jury and non-jury trials, many including life and capital crimes, such as Capital Murder and Homicide cases, and Sexual Battery cases. As a criminal defense attorney, he has been appointed by state and federal judges to defend the rights of the accused. He has vigorously represented clients during every phase of the criminal justice process, from bond hearings to motions to suppress evidence. He has successfully challenged police misconduct that has resulted in a violation of citizen rights and defended the rights of the accused to suppress confessions obtained illegally. As a civil trial attorney, he has represented individuals injured through the negligence and malpractice of others, sought to protect parential rights in child custody cases, assisted and counseled hundreds of parties going through divorce, paternity, or family cases, and served the interests of hundreds of others in business and other walks of life, in need of experienced and aggressive legal representation. He has an extensive record of consultation with experts, in all phases of litigation, including medical examiners, doctors, crime scene and firearms examiners, accident reconstructionists, scientists, accountants, and in countless other areas. More importantly, he utilizes the most qualified and experienced investigators to best serve the specific interests of his clients.
