Binder and Binder is an Advocacy, Not a Law Firm

"Do what you do, better and nicer." That's a Binder family tradition that Harry and Charles Binder expect everyone in our company to remember and respect in dealing with our clients. It means do the "little things." It means, "Go a little out of your way if you have to, in order to find out exactly the right information for a caller." It means, "Lots of times our clients are really hurting.

Treat them like you'd want your mom or dad treated in the same kind of situation." It means, "Listen... really listen to what a client is telling you." It means almost always getting a real person, not an automated voice mail message when you call for information.

Little things like that make life "better and nicer" for our clients.

As we told you in the "Our History" section of our brochure, Binder and Binder is a proud family business that began on May 19th, 1975 when a discouraged and almost penniless ex-New York firefighter walked unannounced into Harry Binder's tiny law office in Patchogue, New York. The Fire fighter had been injured, and eventually disabled, but his application for Disability benefits had been turned down by the Social Security Administration.

He threw a challenge at Harry. He said, "I need a guy to represent me who is a genuine expert on Social Security Disability benefits. Is that you?" Harry has always liked challenges...and fire-fighters. As Harry always says, "They do stuff I'd be scared to do once, and they do it every day." So Harry hit the law books. And that was the start of a long, difficult, and expensive campaign to expose one of our government's best-kept secrets...the Disability part of the Social Security law. Four years later, Charles Binder left his position as a New York City Public Defender, and joined his brother. Together, they formed Binder and Binder.

It was a small beginning. But clients responded in a big way to the passion, the focus and yes... the "Better and nicer" way they were treated at Binder and Binder. Now we have offices in major cities from coast to coast. And our National Department serves clients all over matter where they live.

From that small beginning, we have become "America's Most Successful Social Security Disability Advocates." Pretty good for a couple of guys who were just determined to do the little things that would carry on in the family tradition of treating people "Better and nicer."

But big things count too. Because America is a big place. And as our population ages, more and more Americans are becoming disabled. Instead of a few clients, or a few dozen, or a few hundred, or a few thousand clients...we are now helping tens of thousands of new clients every year. No law firm is big enough to do that "Better and nicer." So a while ago, we made a big change. Our company's full name is now Binder and Binder, the National Social Security Disability Advocates. L.L.C.

Our big change to a different company structure has allowed us to bring in scores of highly qualified Advocates, top flight executives, and vastly upgraded physical facilities. It allows us to plan for 24/7 live telephone information services. It puts in motion the development of new technologies like video conferencing to make government hearings more convenient for our clients...and more cost efficient for the government.

It's a big change that we've made so we can continue to do the "little things" that make our clients a bit more comfortable while they're going through some tough times.

We now serve clients in all fifty states. But everybody at "America's Most Successful Social Security Disability Advocates " will continue to remember and respect Harry and Charles Binder's family tradition..."Do what you do better and nicer."

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:
Comfort Level - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
Credentials - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
Cost - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
City - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?
