Melitta graduated cum laude from William Mitchell College of Law. While in law school, she served on the board of directors for the National Asian Pacific American Law Students Association, representing law students in the Midwest and Northwest regions on behalf of the national organization. Melitta externed for the Honorable Kevin S. Burke of the Hennepin County District Court during the 2007-08 school year.   
  
Prior to law school, Melitta worked as an arts administrator and performing musician, previously serving as an assistant in the artistic department of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Melitta received a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance from the University of Kansas and a Master of Philosophy degree in music from the University of Birmingham, England. She joined Briggs in 2008.
