Michael Brown is a litigator whose practice focuses on banking and the financial markets. He has acted on a number of high-profile cases arising out of the collapse of financial institutions (including BCCI) and markets (including the split capital investment trusts market in London and the Asian financial market in the late 1990s). As well as advising clients on risk and in disputes in investment banking, asset management, and trade finance, he advises on matters involving regulatory and government bodies, including the Financial Services Authority and the Serious Fraud Office in the U.K. and the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission in the U.S. He has assisted banks in recovering funds lost through fraud and advised on antifraud policy and procedures and gained front-line experience by working in-house at a U.K. clearing bank and while on secondment to a major U.S. bank. Michael's work, particularly for funds and in tracing assets in fraud cases, has given him experience in coordinating litigation across a number of jurisdictions, including the U.S., the British Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, the Channel Islands, and the Czech Republic.
