Lawyer Overview
Mark Cohen has worked in intellectual property and Chinese law for nearly 25 years. Prior to joining Jones Day in 2008, he served with the U.S. Embassy in Beijing for seven years where he was involved in bilateral patent and trademark prosecution, Internet copyright enforcement, civil litigation technical assistance, antimonopoly law, domain name dispute resolution, standards setting, and technology transfer initiatives. He has worked closely with foreign governments and international organizations on resolving IPR-related issues in China as well.
In addition to his experience in technology transfer and investment transaction issues, Mark has worked on Section 301 cases, Section 337 matters, and complex multinational IPR litigation.
Mark has written and published extensively on Chinese intellectual property law, comparative law, and legal developments in countries undergoing economic transition. He was editor of Chinese Intellectual Property Law and Practice (Kluwer Law International 1999), co-editor of a book on China's legal development, and author of several articles on technology transfer to China.
From 1993 to 1995, Mark served as a visiting Fulbright professor in the Republic of Slovenia. He also has written extensively on Slovenian law and was the first lawyer to represent independent Slovenia before a U.S. government agency.
