Lawyer Overview

Markus's practice is concentrated on regulatory law matters, public procurement law, and German administrative and public law, with a focus on real estate, especially public construction/zoning law and environmental law. Markus has extensive experience advising clients in real estate developments for residential and commercial properties, including shopping centers, wholesale markets, retail developments, office buildings, and developments of city districts. He also litigates public and private construction law matters.

Markus recently advised and represented a German retail company in developing shopping centres and malls; a U.S. retailer in developing retail areas, including negotiations with local authorities relating to local plan proceedings; a Dutch joint venture in relation to developing a former military area into a new district housing; and a German joint venture in the development of a retail park as a public-private partnership. Markus also advised various bidders on the tendering procedure and conducted negotiations with the authorities according to requirements of a public tender.

Prior to joining Jones Day, Markus worked for another law firm in Germany for many years.
