Elisabeth M. Edwards is an attorney in the Family Law Practice Group of JOCHAM HARDEN DIMICK JACKSON, P.C. In addition to focusing her practice on all areas of family law litigation, Ms. Edwards is also a registered domestic mediator.
Ms. Edwards completed her undergraduate degree at Hanover College and went on to earn her Juris Doctor in 2002 at Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis. Ms. Edwards was a Silver Level Participant in the Pro Bono Program with more than 200 hours. Her law school experience was enhanced by her participation in several activities including Client Counseling Competition Executive Board, Dean's Student Advisory Board, Student Bar Association, Teen Court, the Volunteer Tax Assistance Program, and was the Secretary for Phi Alpha Delta. Ms. Edwards also served on the Executive Board of the Indianapolis Bar Association Law Student Division.
Ms. Edwards' professional career involvements include the Protective Order Pro Bono Project of Greater Indianapolis, Inc. ("POPBP" - Student Attorney, 2001-2002: Secretary, 2002-2004: Vice President, 2005: and President, 2006-2007, Board of Directors). She has also completed specialized training and currently serves as a court-appointed Guardian Ad Litem. Ms. Edwards was recently recognized as an Up and Coming Lawyer in the April 30, 2008 special edition of the Indiana Lawyer.
As a frequent lecturer and seminar presenter, Ms. Edwards has authored or co-authored such topics as "Children's Records Law in Indiana," National Business Institute ("NBI"), 2003: "QDRO Creation in Indiana: Building a Future After a Split," NBI, 2004: "CHINS: Protecting the Children in Jeopardy," NBI, 2006: "Indiana Family Law Practice for Paralegals," Half Moon, 2006; "Adoption Law," NBI 2007; "Drafting and Using QDROs," ICLEF 2008; and "Divorce 101 for Paralegals," NBI 2008.
Ms. Edwards has served as a mediation coach for mediation training at the Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis in 2007, and most recently as a role play coach/assistant trainer for the Domestic Relations Mediation Training with a Focus on Low-Income and Unrepresented Mediation Parties on June 18, 2008. She has also been a panelist on the "Surviving and Thriving in Law School" program at the IU School of Law - Indianapolis.
Ms. Edwards is a member of the Indianapolis Bar Association, Family Law Division, and the Pro Bono Standing Committee. She also graduated from the 2007 IBA Bar Leader Series, Class IV, and is now serving on the Bar Leader Series Steering Committee and the ADR Section Executive Committee. Ms. Edwards also co-chaired the 2008 Bench Bar Conference. Her professional memberships also include the Family and Juvenile Law Divisions of the Indiana State Bar Association. She was also part of the 2000-2001 Indianapolis American Inn of Court.
Volunteerism is a priority for Ms. Edwards, with her lending her expertise to such causes as Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic and Kids' Voice. She is a volunteer with the IBA's Ask a Lawyer and Legal Line programs as well as the ISBA's Talk to a Lawyer program. She has also appeared as an Indiana Kids' Election Speaker. Her community activities including prior service to the Irvington Academy of Fine Arts, and for the past eight years she has been a member of the Chi Omega Fraternity Alumnae Association of Indianapolis.
In her spare time, Ms. Edwards is an avid reader and book club participant, and enjoys running and training for half-marathons.
