Attorney Shannon Coffey's legal practice includes family law, adoption, child custody and visitation, child support, recovery and modification, divorce, legitimation and paternity, contract disputes and personal injury. She has handled a wide variety of cases ranging from aviation contract disputes, to military child support actions, to toxic mold litigation, and insurance defense. She litigates primarily in Northeast Georgia throughout Athens-Clarke, Oconee, Walton, Elbert, Oglethorpe, Hall, Greene, Fulton, Jackson, Madison, Banks, Newton, Morgan, and Lumpkin Counties.
Attorney Coffey attended Auburn University on an academic scholarship and graduated in 2003. She completed law school at the University of Georgia School of Law in Athens, Georgia after attending the University of Tulsa College of Law in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for her first two years of law school. During law school she was involved in Moot Court, traveling throughout Oklahoma, Illinois, Louisiana, and Nevada to compete in moot court competitions. In 2004 and 2005, Ms. Coffey placed eighth in the nation for her oral argument in the National Health Law Competition in Carbondale, Illinois. Her NHLC appellate brief on the Fourteenth Amendment placed tenth in the nation in 2005. Her other awards include first place in the Frey Negotiation Competition in 2003, third place in the Hager Torts Oral Argument and Appellate Brief Writing Competition in 2004, and a place in the top ten out of 150 students chosen for the University of Tulsa College of Law's Trial Advocacy class. Ms. Coffey served as Speaker of the House of the Student Bar Association executive committee in 2004 and 2005, where she learned the art of public speaking and Parliamentary procedure.
In October of 2007, Attorney Coffey joined the law firm Wiggins & Norris, LLC, a general litigation and trial practice firm in Athens, Georgia. She practices with Mark M. Wiggins and Blaine A. Norris, both experienced trial attorneys who handle personal injury, commercial litigation, contract disputes, DUI, and criminal defense cases. Ms. Coffey handles the domestic portion of the practice. Prior to joining Wiggins & Norris, Ms. Coffey was an associate at Forrester & Brim in Gainesville, Georgia (medical malpractice defense and insurance defense). During law school she clerked for Prior, Daniel, & Wiltshire, LLC in Athens, where she handled employment law suits.
Attorney Coffey is married to Christopher Coffey and they have one child, Melissa Judith Coffey. The Coffeys are involved members of their church, Redeemer Presbyterian Church, in Athens, and they intend to stay in the Athens area to raise their family.
