Ken Cheney received his J.D. from Loyola Law School and his B.S. in Computer Engineering from the University of California, Irvine. Mr. Cheney's practice includes the legal representation of clients in copyright, patent, and trademark related matters worldwide.
While in law school, Mr. Cheney was a senior editor of the Loyola International & Comparative Law Review, a published author, and a moot court competition semi-finalist and team invitee. His article, "Patentability of Stem Cell Research Under TRIPS: Can Morality-Based Exclusions Be Better Defined by Emerging Customary International Law?", was published in the Loyola International & Comparative Law Review, and explores global trends in stem cell laws and patent practice.
In addition to the California State Bar, Mr. Cheney has been admitted to practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office, and has been active in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, including foreign prosecution in Australian, European Patent Office, and Japan. Mr. Cheney recently obtained a determination of eligibility for a patent term extension for a major medical company. His practice covers a wide spectrum of technical disciplines, including computer hardware and software, the Internet, entertainment, medical devices and methods, healthcare, mechanical devices, electrical circuits, and information management and processing systems.
Prior to joining Fulwider Patton LLP, Mr. Cheney managed a career in electrical and computer engineering with fortune 150 companies including TRW Space & Technology, PacifiCare, and Sony Pictures Entertainment. Mr. Cheney is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) specializing in software and IT contracts and solution resourcing, and was part of the development team that created the original Ditech.com. With over fifteen years as a professional in the software industry he has developed broad expertise in software and computer architecture, as well as a deep understanding of the technical goals as well as the business thinking behind software and computer engineering-related technologies and marketing.
