Steven is an international commercial litigator who focuses on resolving commercial disputes, often across jurisdictional boundaries. While maintaining a diverse practice, Steven has particular experience in the following industries: banking and finance, energy and resources, and construction. Steven has acted for clients in disputes in jurisdictions as diverse as Cambodia, Sudan, Slovakia, France, Alberta, Sri Lanka, and Italy.
Steven has acted for clients in proceedings before the superior courts of Australia and England and in arbitrations administered by the ICC, LCIA, and SIAC. Steven's major cases have included a dispute concerning EPC contracts for a sub-Saharan oil project, regulatory investigation of the compliance department of a major investment bank, an action against a state government over the rights to a substantial bauxite deposit, acting for the owner of a motorsport team in a joint venture dispute, acting for an investment bank challenging an insolvent administration, and acting for a construction company in a contractual dispute concerning a blast furnace.
Before joining Jones Day's Sydney Office, where he leads the litigation practice, Steven worked at a major Australian firm and before that he worked for five years in London for a Magic Circle firm.
