Lawyer Overview

Christian Funke's practice focuses on German and international tax law. He works primarily on international M&A transactions, cross-border bankruptcy reorganizations, and other restructuring transactions involving distressed businesses in various industries, including the automotive sector. Christian also advises domestic and foreign investors/investment funds in real estate and solar energy transactions.

Christian's experience includes the structuring of private equity funds, including the participation of fund initiators, and advising private equity funds in acquisitions. He also has experience in the tax structuring of equity and debt finance instruments. He has dealt with German tax auditors in state aid/subsidy matters and controversies for foreign clients. In addition, he has provided tax advice in a number of optimized VAT structures for multinational clients. He also advises on the development and implementation of management incentive/stock option plans.

Before joining Jones Day, Christian worked in the tax division of a major U.K. law firm in Frankfurt.
