Lawyer Overview

Jonathan Blinderman is Of Counsel to the Firm, working in the Entertainment and Media Transactions Department.  His work is focused primarily on matters pertaining to the development, production and distribution of entertainment projects, with substantial experience in distribution across new media platforms (including television PPV/VOD, Internet and mobile handset distribution.

Mr. Blinderman's recent major transactions include:

  • Representing content owner for distribution of digital content to over 70 million subscribers on platforms controlled by Comcast, Time Warner Cable, DirecTV, Dish Network and Charter Communications, including rights for linear television, VOD and Internet rights with aggregate estimated gross revenues over $500 million.
  • Representing acquiring company in a $30 million acquisition of a multi-platform production and distribution company.
  • Representing content owner for multi-territory mobile phone distribution of content including $1 million minimum guaranty.
  • Representing content owner for multi-platform distribution joint venture with major Brazilian telecommunications company.
  • Representing brand owner in mobile game development and distribution agreement for world wide exclusive rights, including a substantial minimum guaranty payment to brand owner.
  • Representing a show runner in multi-million dollar overall deal with major television production company.
  • Representing foreign theater operators in $100 million transaction with studios financing digital cinema deployment.


    Mr. Blinderman's expertise lies in the following areas:

  • Entertainment Law, including intellectual property rights, production agreements and distribution deals;
  • Finance Transaction, including debt, equity and convertible instruments;
  • Mergers and Acquisitions of media and entertainment companies;
  • Mr. Blinderman is recognized as an expert in Entertainment law, teaching Entertainment law as part of the Entertainment Certificate Program at UCLA Extension.


    Prior to working with the Firm, Mr. Blinderman was responsible for all transactions regarding the distribution of content and mergers and acquisitions for the Entertainment Group of Playboy Enterprises, Inc.  Prior to that, Mr. Blinderman was Senior Vice President and General Counsel to TVN Entertainment, Corp., a leading aggregator of content and provider of digital content management services to the cable television and telecommunication industries.

    Mr. Blinderman graduated with a J.D. with honors from the Duke School of Law and a Masters in Economics from Duke University in 1992.  He also received a B.A., Cum Laude, from the University of Colorado in 1987.

    Mr. Blinderman has traveled extensively throughout the world both on business and for pleasure.  He has competed in sailing for over thirty years, including numerous world and national championships.  He is the father of boy/girl twins and their younger brother.
