While in law school, Ms. Wijewardena Bloom interned with Cambridge & Somerville Legal Services, where she prepared cases for housing and disability hearings, negotiated on clients’ behalf with opposing counsel, administrative agencies and medical providers, and successfully represented a client before an Administrative Law judge. Prior to law school, Ms. Wijewardena Bloom worked as a career advocate with Transition to Work Collaborative in Boston, a program that provides career planning and job placement for a network of homeless shelters. Ms. Wijewardena Bloom assisted clients with placement in employment, educational and vocational training opportunities, as well as guided clients through legal proceedings and advocated on their behalf for critical services.
As an undergraduate, Ms. Wijewardena Bloom was a workers’ welfare and legal intern with Free Trade Zone Workers’ Welfare in Sri Lanka, where she participated in labor dispute resolution cases at the Labor Tribunal, and investigated factory conditions and cases of extrajudicial killing. She also held a research assistant position with the Social Scientists’ Association in Sri Lanka, researching state reactions to ethnic violence in the country.Areas of Practice
