Lawyer Overview
James Phillips joined the Houston office of Baker Hostetler in September 2007. Mr. Phillips' practice involves work in the areas of complex business litigation and labor and employment.
In regard to complex business litigation, Mr. Phillips has assisted a variety of clients on various litigation matters in state and federal court, including complex commercial litigation, products liability, collection matters, toxic tort, premises liability, construction litigation, environmental litigation and oil and gas litigation.
In his capacity as a member of the Labor and Employment Team, Mr. Phillips represents management in employment cases involving wrongful termination under federal law, such as Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Age Discrimination in Employment Act and the Family and Medical Leave Act. Mr. Phillips also represents and advises management with respect to employment issues arising under state law, including, but not limited to, workers' compensation, the Texas Payday Act, breach of contract, the Texas Staff Leasing Services Act, tortious interference, invasion of privacy and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
During law school, Mr. Phillips was a member of the University of Texas Moot Court Team. He participated in the annual moot court competitions hosted by the American Bar Association and Texas Young Lawyer's Association and earned several speaking and team awards.
