Lawyer Overview
Christopher Porter joined Brustein & Manasevit as an associate in November 2006. Mr. Porter advises clients with regards to a number of Federal education programs, including the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, the Higher Education Act, and the Workforce Investment Act. In addition, he advises clients with regards to student privacy issues, specifically those arising under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
A primary focus of Mr. Porter's practice is defending clients in adverse Office of Inspector General audits and program review determinations, including administrative litigation. Another focus is advising State educational agencies and school districts that have been designated as high-risk grantees with regards to Federal education programs.
Upon graduating from Tulane Law School in May 2005, Mr. Porter served as a law clerk at the Office of Administrative Law Judges for the U.S. Department of Labor in Washington, DC. As a clerk, his primary areas of expertise were Whistleblower protection statutes and Federal workers' compensation programs. Prior to law school, Mr. Porter received his B.A. in Political Science from Brown University.
Mr. Porter is a member of the bars of New York and the District of Columbia.
