Lawyer Overview

Lee Gardner practices intellectual property law with an emphasis on patent litigation and patent procurement in the electrical, computer, and telecommunications-related arts. Lee also has experience preparing opinions on validity, infringement, and freedom-to-operate, performing intellectual property due diligence for transactions and advising clients on patent strategy and portfolio development. He has specific experience drafting, prosecuting, and analyzing patents relating to digital cameras, software inventions, digital radio broadcasting, information processing, semiconductor devices, microcontroller systems, medical devices, wireless geolocation, and wireless telecommunications systems, including GSM, CDMA2000, and UMTS. In addition, Lee has specific experience prosecuting U.S. and international trademark applications and advising clients regarding internet-related issues, including open source and domain name dispute resolution.

Prior to joining Jones Day, Lee worked as an IP law clerk and also served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Submarine Force onboard USS Olympia (SSN 717). While on active duty, he qualified as a nuclear engineer, supervised the sonar division, and led a watch section of more than 20 sailors during lengthy underway operations as the officer of the deck. Lee received several military awards and citations, including the Navy Commendation Medal and the Navy Expeditionary Medal.
