Lawyer Overview

Leanne Zheng's practice focuses on civil and commercial litigation. Before joining Jones Day, she served in the Beijing court system for a decade, hearing more than 500 civil and commercial cases as a third-level judge and 800 cases as a clerk. These cases included first instance and second instance cases appealed from nine subordinate district courts.

Leanne's experience covers a wide variety of subjects, including property, real estate, construction contracts, sales contracts, leases, compensation, lending, partnerships, gifts, insurance, transportation contracts, labor, torts, foreign-related matters, and other cases that have major social impact within the court's jurisdiction. A number of her verdicts have been chosen as model samples for judgment writing guidance for local courts.

Leanne's court background includes shepherding 12 research projects and producing more than 20 academic articles and more than 30 case analyses and judge's opinions. She has been invited as a senior contributor to a number of leading publications, including Reference and Guide to Civil Trial, China Daily, Legal Daily, People's Court Daily, In and Out of the Court, Beijing Judgment, Judge's Forum, Beijing Youth Daily, and Beijing Daily. Her research papers have been used towards improving local judicial work and more than 10 of her published articles have won national awards for their academic value.

Leanne is a frequent speaker at seminars and conferences held in the U.K and China on China-related court and legal reform topics.
