Nick Pisano has extensive experience representing companies in all areas of patent law, including patent procurement and portfolio management, investment due diligence, patent opinion and licensing work, patent litigation and related appeals, and interference practice before the USPTO. Nick advises both start-up and established companies with the design, creation, acquisition, management, licensing, and enforcement of patent portfolios.

Over the past 20 years, Nick has served as lead/trial counsel in jury trials and other litigation involving a wide range of patents, including medical devices, computer hardware and software, and wireless communications technologies. Nick recently won a verdict of $6 million in California federal district court for Kentucky Oil Technology, N.V. on its breach of contract action relating to stent technology used in the oil industry. Nick also has represented dozens of companies covering a wide range of mechanical/software and medical device technical fields; his clients have been acquired for a total of more than $4.5 billion, including Arterial Vascular Engineering, Arteria Medical, Neovision Corp., CoreValve, Embolic Protection, EndoTex Interventional Technologies, EndoArt S.A., and others.

Nick is coordinator of the Mechanical/Medical Device Technology subgroup at Jones Day. Prior to joining Jones Day, he was chairman of the IP subgroup at Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps LLP, and prior to that an associate and then partner at Fish & Neave. Prior to entering law, Nick worked in the nuclear industry, designing nuclear fuel and simulation programs at General Electric Company and Westinghouse Electric Corporation. Nick is a registered professional engineer in California.
