Lawyer Overview

Marta's practice is concentrated on EC and antitrust law. She has appeared before the European Community Court of Justice, the European Commission, the Spanish Competition Court, and the national courts in matters regarding state aids, economic mergers, restrictive agreements (article 81 TCE and 1 LDC), abuse of dominant position (article 82 TCE and 6 LDC), and unfair competition. She also has broad experience in counselling EC and national companies in matters of intellectual and industrial property as well as representing them in the national courts.

Marta has represented clients such as UPA, AEESCAM, AOC, Vista Capital, Burger King, Procter & Gamble, Centrica, France Telecom, General Electric, Jesús del Pozo, RIM (Blackberry), Trader/Segundamano, Endesa, and Repsol.

Marta is ranked in the competition practices categories in Chambers Europe and Legal 500 as a leading individual competition lawyer in Spain. Before joining Jones Day, Marta worked for three years at G&J Abogados in Madrid, a small legal firm that specialised in EC and antitrust law. Marta is an associate professor of competition law at the University Carlos III of Madrid and is a member of the board of professors of the master's in European law program at the university. She is a member of the Spanish Association for the Defense of Competition, which is affiliated with the Ligue Internationale du Droit de la Concurrence. She has written several articles on antitrust matters.
