Lawyer Overview

John Miller represents owners/developers, contractors, suppliers, manufacturers, and design professionals. John also advises clients in the contracting and documentation phase of projects, including dispute avoidance and claim preparation, and represents contractors in payment and lien disputes in state, federal, and bankruptcy courts. John successfully defended in a AAA arbitration hearing one of the world's largest engineering and construction contractors in a complex construction dispute involving claims associated with work performed on the design and construction of a polymer chemical plant.

In addition, John has broad experience in commercial litigation matters, including product liability, insurance, and commercial disputes, handling discovery, trial preparation, trial, and post-trial briefing and other aspects of litigation. John has taken and defended fact and expert depositions, authored and argued dispositive motions, led teams in large-scale document reviews, and participated in mediations.

Prior to joining Jones Day, John successfully defended a major building materials manufacturer in product liability and construction lawsuits. John was part of the litigation team for a trial in New York state court for a major international reinsurer in a claim for actuarial malpractice. John also participated in a AAA arbitration hearing for an owner of a large manufacturing facility in a commercial dispute with a contractor related to a multimillion dollar roofing project. In that hearing he conducted cross-examination and direct examination of expert and fact witnesses.

John is a member of the American Bar Association (Construction Industry Forum and Section on Litigation) and the Allegheny County Bar Association (Construction Law Section and Civil Litigation Section).
