Law Firm Overview

            In 2000, Heidi Geiger opened her own Family Law practice, Geiger & Associates, LLC located in the historic Vinings Village on the northwest side of Atlanta.  Ms. Geiger and her staff have successfully resolved hundreds of cases throughout the Metro Atlanta area.  Ms. Geiger focuses her Family Law practice to the following counties:  Cobb, Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinnett, Cherokee, Forsyth, Hall, Bartow, Paulding and Douglas.

            Geiger & Associates pride themselves on the personal attention given to each and every client in helping them through extremely difficult times.  Because the firm is small, Ms. Geiger will be hands- on with virtually every aspect of your case.  Your case will not be passed from partner to associate to paralegal to secretary and back again with every step along the way being added to your bill.  Ms. Geiger works closely with her clients in order to provide efficient and economical legal services by discussing with clients a cost benefit analysis of various legal strategies as well as by acting as an agent of reality when a client suggests that he or she wants justice at any cost.  Ms. Geiger will point out that that cost could put your kids through college or all of the lawyers' kids through college.

            Ms. Geiger meets with all potential new clients in a face to face meeting called an initial consultation.  In this meeting, Ms. Geiger and the potential client will first get to know each other to see if they are a good fit for one another.  Ms. Geiger will learn more about the details of your situation as well as your immediate and long-term goals.  Ms. Geiger will also provide you with a basic foundation of Georgia law as it applies to your case as well as a rough procedural timetable.  At the end of the initial consultation and based upon the information shared in that meeting, Ms. Geiger will quote to you an initial retainer.  This is Ms. Geiger's estimate as to what your case will cost.  Ms. Geiger will officially become your attorney once you have signed the firm's contract and have paid the initial retainer.

            Sometimes potential clients are unsure if they want or need a divorce but are concerned that his or her marriage may be headed in that direction.  However, this person may not have all of the information that he or she needs in order to make the decision as to what to do.  An initial consultation would be appropriate in this instance for educational purposes.  Ms. Geiger has often stated, I am not in the business of selling divorces.  Although, in this line of work, counselor is a hat that I often wear, I am not a formally trained mental health professional, and therefore, not equipped to help a person make such an important decision.  I can recommend several counselors.

            However, once you have made the decision to go forward with divorce (or your spouse has made that decision and has served you with papers), Ms. Geiger is fully prepared and able to help you in resolving your case whether it's by negotiation, mediation, litigation, or a combination thereof.

            In addition to divorce cases, Geiger & Associates handles other types of Family Law cases including:  prenuptial agreements, child support modification, alimony, child custody modification, contempt actions, step-parent adoptions, name change, paternity, and legitimization.  Not only is Ms. Geiger a Family Law advocate, she is also a trained mediator and a Guardian ad Litem.

Heidi Geiger is originally from the Midwest, but has resided in Metro Atlanta since 1990.  Ms. Geiger attended the University of Michigan Ann Arbor, majored in Psychology, and graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree.  Ms. Geiger attended Georgia State University College of Law beginning in 1992 and graduating in 1995.  While in law school, Ms. Geiger was on traveling teams for both Moot Court and Student Trial Lawyers Association.  Also, while attending law school, Ms. Geiger clerked at Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi, a 250+ attorney law firm headquartered in Minneapolis with other offices throughout the United States including Atlanta.  Ms. Geiger also had the opportunity of interning with Georgia Supreme Court Justice Leah Ward Sears.

            Upon graduating from law school, Ms. Geiger worked as an associate with Stern and Edlin a boutique Family Law firm located in Buckhead specializing in high asset and high profile cases.  Having worked with Stern and Edlin for four years, Ms. Geiger earned invaluable training and experience.
