Lawyer Overview

Tadakatsu Sano's practice focuses on risk management and regulatory compliance and encompasses a broad range of government regulations such as security products export control, product safety, foreign direct investment regulation, energy and environment, and antitrust law.

Tadakatsu spent 35 years at the Japan Ministry of International Trade and Industry (now the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry), where he worked in the field of international trade policy. During his tenure as director-general of the Trade Policy Bureau and vice minister for international affairs, he completed economic partnership agreements with Mexico and Singapore and was engaged in the Doha Round negotiations in the WTO and in the individual trade negotiations between the U.S., the E.U., and China. He also served as executive assistant to Prime Minister Hosokawa. At Jones Day, Tadakatsu's clients include major Japanese companies such as an electric utility company, an engineering company, and transport machine manufacturers.

Tadakatsu provides commentary to the media including the Nikkei newspapers with regard to trade and legal issues, and he speaks on these issues at international conferences.
