Mark Kafka's practice focuses on U.S. and foreign patent prosecution in the areas of biotechnology, chemistry, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices. His field of specialty includes pharmaceuticals and chemicals, particularly small molecule drugs. He has been involved in patent litigations as well.

Mark was formerly a medicinal chemist at Chugai Pharma U.S.A., LLC in San Diego. He performed his graduate work in organic chemistry at the University of California, San Diego where he conducted research in the areas of organic synthesis and carbohydrate chemistry. He also interned during his undergraduate studies in the chemistry group at Aurora Biosciences Corporation (currently Vertex Pharmaceuticals) in San Diego.
