Lawyer Overview
Thomas Jestaedt has practiced EU and German antitrust/competition law, EU state aid law, public procurement law, EU constitutional law, and international contracts law in Brussels for more than 20 years.
Thomas has represented clients in some of the largest European cartel cases in recent years, including Austrian Banks, Cartonboard, and Preisolated Pipes. He is the regular competition law advisor to SAP, which he represented in Oracle/PeopleSoft and SAP's acquisition of Business Objects. He is recognized as one of the leading authorities in EU state aid law; acted for Landesbanken, a German public bank, in recent EU Commission proceedings; and has acted for investors and governments (including the government of Brandenburg) in investment aid proceedings. He assisted one European country in the privatization of its national airline and another in aligning its tax laws with EU state aid law. His public procurement experience includes a successful court action by a bidder for the privatization of the Berlin airports. He has represented clients in a number of proceedings before the European courts in Luxembourg, including in a leading case on the interpretation of EU directive "Television without Frontiers."
Thomas is coauthor of a leading German commentary on competition law (Langen/Bunte), the main German-language publication on state aid law, the Lexis/Nexis European Competition Laws Guide, and has written more than 25 competition law articles.
