Lawyer Overview

Jordan Gimbel's practice primarily involves representation of pharmaceutical, software, mining, telecommunications, and other technology-intensive companies in intellectual property matters.

Jordan has experience in patent litigation involving pharmaceuticals and chiral compounds (Hatch-Waxman ANDA infringement context) as well as software, telecommunications, and electronic devices. He has worked on trademark and general business litigation cases and arbitrations where he handled all phases of litigation from discovery, motion practice, to witnesses. Additionally, Jordan assists clients in securing their intellectual property rights and prosecuting such rights before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and in similar foreign governmental offices.

Jordan also counsels clients on matters involving intellectual property issues that arise in the context of general corporate transactions, such as mergers and acquisitions. He has experience drafting and negotiating a variety of intellectual property agreements, including licenses for the transfer of technology, joint development agreements, research agreements, service agreements, marketing and promotion agreements, and sales agreements.

Before joining Jones Day, Jordan represented clients in negotiations involving entertainment and media properties and drafted a variety of licenses. His experience with media and licenses involving multimedia extend back to the years he worked as director of business development at a national multimedia company based in Los Angeles. He also worked on an array of civil litigation matters before joining Jones Day, including one matter as co-counsel with the attorney general of California.

In 2002, Jordan was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship for Sweden where he was enrolled in the information technology and the law master's program at Stockholm University. While in Sweden, he also participated with the Max Planck Institute in preparing a draft of the Hague Convention on jurisdiction and recognition of judgments in intellectual property matters.

Jordan is a member of the State Bar of California (Intellectual Property Section) and Orange County Bar Association and gives lectures on topics in intellectual property.
